Hola! (Hello!)
My name is Jerónimo. I'm a plant ecologist and conservation biologist. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Veracruz (Mexico) and a PhD from Deakin University (Australia). I'm currently a Research Fellow in the eXtreme Plant Ecology Research Team at Deakin University.
My research focuses on the ecology of temperate and alpine ecosystems, plant recruitment (seeds & seedlings), conservation of threatened species and sustainable use of forest resources. Most of my work has been done in the mountains of Mexico and the Australian Alps. I am currently working on studies looking at snow patch soil seed banks, germination niches of Australian alpine species, and maternal environmental effects on seeds and seedlings.
In addition to my research, I have experience in developing and implementing on-the-ground conservation projects. I worked for over five years at Pronatura Veracruz, where I learned a lot about applied conservation, ecological restoration, project management, fundraising and policy making.
Three things about this website: 1) It's in Spanglish! Mostly in English, but you'll see a lot of words in Spanish as much of my work has been published in that language, 2) it looks a lot better in the desktop version, and 3) I'm the author of all the photos/graphics, so feel free to use them, but please credit me.
I'm always happy to chat about plants, science and conservation. If you want to contact me, write to j.ramirez@research.deakin.edu.au or jero.vazquez@live.com.
