Hola! (Hello!)
I'm a plant ecologist and conservation biologist with a PhD from Deakin University (Australia) and Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Veracruz (Mexico). I’m currently a Research Fellow in the eXtreme Plant Ecology Research Team at Deakin University.
My research focuses on the ecology of temperate and alpine ecosystems, plant recruitment (seeds & seedlings), conservation of threatened species and sustainable use of forest resources. Most of my work has been done in the mountains of Mexico and the Australian Alps.
Beyond research, I have hands-on experience in developing and implementing conservation projects. I spent over six years at Pronatura Veracruz, working on applied conservation, ecological restoration, project management, fundraising, and policy making.
A few things about this website: (1) It’s in Spanglish! Mostly in English, but expect some Spanish—many of my publications are in that language, (2) Best viewed on desktop. It just looks better, and (3) Photos & graphics are mine. Feel free to use them—just give me credit!
I'm always happy to chat about plants, science, and conservation. Reach out at j.ramirez@research.deakin.edu.au or jero.vazquez@live.com.
